In a joint interview on Fox News, President Donald Trump characterized Elon Musk as his "enforcer-in-chief," praising the tech billionaire for his dedication in implementing the flurry of executive orders Trump has signed since his return to office.
During the interview, Trump and Musk spent considerable time
praising each other and pushing back against criticisms that Trump’s executive
actions were overreaching. In recent weeks, Trump has signed numerous executive
orders, many of which have sparked legal challenges due to potential
constitutional concerns.
Musk, a major donor to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign,
was appointed to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency
(DOGE). The department’s goal is to identify and eliminate “waste, fraud, and
abuse” in federal spending. Musk emphasized that one of DOGE’s key tasks is
ensuring that Trump’s executive orders are effectively carried out.

"You write an executive order, think it’s done, you
send it out, but it doesn’t get done," Trump said. "Musk and his team
make sure that it actually happens."
Musk and the DOGE team have become a crucial enforcement arm
within the federal bureaucracy, ensuring that Trump’s policies are put into
action swiftly and without resistance. According to Trump, those who refuse to
implement his directives risk losing their jobs.
In the interview, Trump also discussed a sweeping new
executive order he signed that seeks to centralize White House control over
federal regulatory agencies. This order would require agencies like the SEC to
submit regulatory proposals to the White House for review. Trump explained that
for the federal government to truly be accountable to the people, those
wielding executive power must be under the control of the elected president.

Musk, sporting a “Tech Support” T-shirt, laughed off the
idea that he was acting as if he were the president. He explained that none of
Trump’s cabinet members are elected, and he views his role as facilitating the
will of the president. "If the bureaucracy is fighting the will of the
people and preventing the president from implementing what the people want,
then we live in a bureaucracy, not a democracy," Musk stated.
Musk’s growing influence in the Trump administration has
raised questions about who holds power in the White House. Trump, however,
swiftly dismissed any rumors of tension between himself and Musk. "Elon
called me and said they’re trying to drive a wedge between us. I told him,
‘Absolutely,’” Trump recalled.
